The Sirius star system was, in one universe, home to an advanced race of amphibious humanoids with three eyes and pincers for hands.
Having achieved enlightenment, they sought to share it with other sentient races such as humanity in the form of the logos. Their first attempt to do so was to beam the logos at Earth. The beam fell on a writer called Philip K. Dick, who developed a mental illness before he could share his insight with others in a reliable fashion. Some time later, the people of Sirius tried again, this time sending an ambassador in person, the Nommo. (COMIC: Say The Word)
