Godiva

Godiva
From Jenny Everywhere Wiki

A resident of Little Noodlington in one universe once exclaimed “in Godiva's name!”. (COMIC: Enchanted)

Behind the scenes

In the real world, the historical figure of Lady Godiva is best-known for having supposedly ridden through the streets naked in protest for her own husband's overtaxing of his subjects (although this tale is most likely apocryphal). It is thus humourous that her name would be invoked by a resident of a fantasy universe where clothing is unheard-of, but it is also unclear how her story could exist in such a universe. As the end of Enchanted reveals, however, Janet Jenkins, a resident of a much more “realistic” universe, spent some time in the fantasy world decades prior to the events of Enchanted; it is possible that she told them the legend and/or introduced the oath to the people of Little Noodlington. Alternatively, it is of course always possible that despite the real-world significance of the name, the “Godiva” of the fantasy world has, in-universe, no recognisable relationship to the real-world figure and became famous enough to be the subject of an oath for reasons unrelated to nudity.
