In one universe, Ulysses Dumas was a bystander rescued by Jenny Everywhere and Kim from the dungeon of the Vampire King.
He hoped to make it big as a singer (although Jenny, having heard his music, doubted he ever would). Some time after his rescue from the King, he realised to his dismay that he had been turned into a vampire himself. He figured out most of the “rules” himself, with the help of movies, including getting a supply of blood thanks to “knowing a guy at a kosher butcher’s” (or, according to another account, “knowing a guy at the Red Cross”.
However, his lingering concern was how to continue his career given that some cameras were unable to see him (due to vampires' invisibility in mirrors). He contacted Jenny, who set an appointment with him at the Faux Fur End where he explained his predicament. They met again two days later with Jenny bringing her friend Kim, who suggested that he create a stage persona justifying him wearing make-up on all exposed skin when on-stage. (PROSE: Camera Shy)
Behind the scenes
The nature of Ulysses' source for ethically-sourced blood differs between the original version of Camera Shy and its 2021 repost; in the original, he “knows a guy at the Red Cross”, while in later sources, he “knows a guy at a kosher butcher's”. This change was presumably effected because of the potential plot hole in a vampire allergic to crosses somehow having contacts at the Red Cross.
