Astro was a talking “space dog”, and, according to himself, “the best poet in his galaxy”. He was from the Prime Universe, but not from Earth.

He spoke entirely in rhyme and had knowledge of many forms of verses and poetry. Pythagoras-858 described him as “strange metafictional”; he could affect the versification of how his own life was told, which had strange effects when he met the Society of the Rhyming Dove, who also lived their life in verse.

This meeting did in fact occur on April Fools' Day, 2021 as the Faction of the Fooling Fish abducted Astro, stuffed him in a box, and mailed him to the Society's headquarters as a prank. Although the Doves were initially put off by Astro's variability, they eventually parted good friends, with him having taught the Doves about may new poetic forms they did not know. The Doves had a member of the Crew of the Copper-Colored Cupids get him home in a Fog Ship, taking a piece of cheese (secretly his favourite food) with him as a parting gift, and intending to visit him in turn someday. Behind the scenes

The original Astro Pooch.

Astro is a parody of Astro Pooch, a character who appeared in a single largely-forgotten 1965 Disney comic strip which was revived in 2018 as an April Fools' Day joke on the review blog Duck Comics Revue (by Geoffrey Moses), with an absurdist recurring joke throughout the gag-review of the strip's simplistic plot being retold through ever more improbable poetic forms. Regular commenters of the blog continued this meme in the comments, including Lupan Evezan, who would go on to writer Multiversal Mischief.
