Plot
Jenny Everywhere and Laura are thrown by a group of guards into the Oubliette, an “inescapable prison”. Laura suggests that Jenny teleport the two of them to freedom, forcing Jenny to admit that her shifting powers don't work anything like so conveniently — though she assures Laura that she has a plan…
Worldbuilding
Universes
- This story takes place in an unidentified universe.
Jenny Everywhere
- The story features a version of Jenny whose powers are limited: she needs time to “prepare” for any shift, and finds it difficult to teleport within a single universe. The Oubliette: Solution clarified that she was not the native Jenny of the universe in which the story takes place.

Continuity
- PROSE: The Oubliette: Solution was a direct sequel to this story.
Behind the scenes
Background
After posting the story on Ficly, Jeanne Morningstar commented:
This was inspired by a story I read where Jenny was basically using her teleporting power as a deus ex machina. I wrote this as my take on why that wouldn’t be the case. I couldn’t quite fit the solution I had in mind into this story, so before I write that I’m going to make it into a sort of challenge. How would YOU deal with this? I’ll give my answer tomorrow. (Well I’m pretty sure no one is paying attention to these, but I don’t care.) |

The solution in question was subsequently posted as The Oubliette: Solution.
