In one universe, Jenny Everywhere had a friend of indeterminate gender, a thin person with long, stringy, light-coloured hair and a long nose. They often met up at the Flat Earth bar, (COMIC: Cars, Tribute)
When they were young, Jenny helped them to get to drink beer before turning 21 by stealing their counterpart's expired I.D. card from a parallel universe. The two were close friends, with Jenny coming to rely on them and their increasingly spaced-out meetings at the Flat Earth as the one constant in her whimsical life; though Jenny told her friend about her adventures, they never believed her, believing she was simply telling wild tales as a kind of in-joke between them.
Due to this disconnect, they grew more distant, unbeknownst to Jenny, as the friend grew up, eventually having a daughter, while Jenny remained the same improbable, earnest person, inadvertently blind to the tough spots her friend was going through in their own life (which they did not dare speak up to Jenny about, not wanting to taint her “innocence”). This culminated in them never finding the strength and the chance to tell Jenny they had been fighting cancer. Eventually, Jenny came to the Flat Earth bar as usual but did not find her friend; after waiting a while, she realised the truth and ran out in tears. (COMIC: Tribute)
