The Maids of the Strange and Wonderful House were a part of [[Household Staff].

Nature

They were a very self-serious guild, who saw themselves as second-only to the Master, and communicated directly with the House. Not all applicants survived the Test which they had to undergo before they would officially become Maids. As with other kinds of Servants to the House, applicants would have to swear never to leave the House again before they were accepted, but in exchange, all the sins of their old lives would be forgotten by all who had known them. History

One version of Jenny Everywhere applied to become a Maid after weighing the pros and cons at length. The elder Maid who interviewed her warned Jenny that the Maids were aware of her nature, and other incarnations of her were known to the House already. She was skeptical of the prospect of inducting this Jenny as a Maid, fearing that her unique nature could become a burden as much as a blessing. Jenny, trying her best to charm the older woman, argued that she should leave the matter up to the House Herself. The elder Maid went over the duties and limitations of Staff again, and made Jenny swear to them, before agreeing to subject her to the Test. (PROSE: Our Strange and Wonderful House: The Maids)

Behind the scenes

In the comments of The Maids, Jeanne Morningstar noted that the Maids introduced therein were partially inspired by Maid: The RPG. Zxvasdf complimented Morningstar's creation and further riffed on it, defining the Maids as “a Bene Gesserit Maidhood, in which no curtain goes undusted (except for the fine placement of of dust molecule in some purposefully-atmospheric ancient “abandoned” chamber or another), no cloth unfolded, no duty shirked”.
