Defying the Dragon was the a backup comic to Episode 3 of the Journey Into Misery subseries of the webcomic The Cosmic Beholder. Written and drawn by Paul Hoppe, it was released both in serialised webcomic form and in a limited print run.

Although Jenny Everywhere was a recurring character in The Cosmic Beholder, she played no part in this story, which instead introduced the Blue Knight. The comic presented itself as Episode 264 of “The Adventures of the Blue Knight”, although no such series existed.

Plot

In Arthurian England, the Blue Knight, a mysterious knight-errant sporting magical blue armour given to them by Merlin himself, confronts a Dragon, demanding that he release a Princess. However, as the Knight engages the Dragon in battle, it transpires that the Princess actually eloped with the Dragon and has no intention of being rescued. Making her way to the top of a cliff overlooking the scene of the battle, she manages to roll a large boulder off the edge and onto the Knight — pinning the Knight in place even if the armour keeps the boulder from killing them. The Dragon and Princess resolve to move to some other, less judgmental land.
