Plot

Monroe Coyote, Bjorn Loki and Quinn Anansi, aka The Misfits of Mischief, while travelling from reality to reality, get sidetracked and somehow stuck in Shelterville - a pocket-sized nexus reality with a Western theme.

After accidentally scaring the local gravedigger who thought they were zombies (as they entered the Shelterville dimension by way of crawling out of a grave) they were greeted by the town's sheriff, known as Hank. He commanded them to stay out of the way, out of trouble and leave town as soon as possible since Shelterville was in the midst of a bizarre ordeal with an invading army of Elves at the time, and Hank didn't want the three of them making things worse, or weirder, with their craziness. For some odd reason, the trio of chaotic demigods were unable to simply warp away from Shelterville on their own, so, they seemed to be temporarily stuck there. During the course of trying to earn money for a trip on the interdimensional train out of town, the trio of silly demigods coincidentally run into their old frenemy, Cupid and their godmother, Thalia, the Muse of Comedy (whom they discover are dating, much to their chagrin). They then wind up conscripted into 'temporary employment' by Lainey MacGraw, owner of the Silver Pen Saloon. Soon after, they accidentally got embroiled in the invasion of Elf ninjas trying to take over the town by stumbling onto a murder, then confronting the one responsible - an Elven war general named Malligus, who was behind the elf ninja invasion plot of Shelterville as a smaller detail of a larger plot to steal and gather weapons/items of power from all across the Multiverse.

Goodbye Shelterville

Once that ordeal was settled, Bjorn, Quinn and Monroe tried to leave on the train, only to find out that there was no train to be had! In the end, their friend, Jenny Everywhere, The Shifter showed up in Shelterville to provide them transport out of town in her own powerful fashion. Having spoken to Sheriff Hank the previous day, when he sought information on the strange reality-warping trio who had shown up in Shelterville at the beginning of their troubled times, Jenny assured him that The Misfits were good guys, but still had a habit of attracting trouble. To that end, after a day's wait, she came to get them.

This storyline is a crossover/offshoot of the "Cowboys and CrossOvers" event that ran through several other comics.

Shelterville is later seen in 24 Hour Comic 2019.
