Castle Frankenstein was a castle which existed in several universes. In some, where the story of Frankenstein's Monster was fictional, it simply served as inspiration for the tale, while in universes where the Monster and its creator were very real, it was the ancestral home of Baron Frankenstein.
History
In the Prime Universe
According to Sherlock Holmes, in his universe, Castle Frankenstein was located in Darmstadt, Germany, and Victor von Frankenstein was an unrelated fictional character. The Castle was abandoned in the 18th century. By 1895, Holmes had seen engravings of the castle, which looked smaller than the one he visited in another universe thanks to Pythagoras-858. In Frankenstein's World
In one universe discovered by the Crew of the Copper-Colored Cupids where Baron Frankenstein was real and lived into old age long after the business with his original Monster, continuing his experiments, the Castle was “huge, crumbling and gothic”. It stood on hill in the middle of the woods and was made of “worn black stones (…) eaten away by dark green moss”. The gates were huge and metallic. The Baron lived in the Castle, where he stocked a supply of bodies on which to practise his experiments. (PROSE: The Time of the Toymaker)
Behind the scenes
Castle Frankenstein as described by Sherlock Holmes matches up to the real-life building by that name, whose influence on Mary Shelley's Frankenstein is contested. At any rate, Shelley's Frankenstein (who is in any event not German) never actually lived in the Castle.
