In the 925th Universe, Mulan was one of Dibbsy's films. During their 2022 Pride Month promotional campaign, an official list of films featuring what were purported as Dibbsy's first officially gay characters contained a disclaimer that Mulan was not included. (PROSE: A Series of Queer Events) In another rotation of this event, the advertisement specified that this was because of a “controversy-related issue” without elaborating. (PROSE: A Series of Queer Events (2024 reedit))

Behind the scenes

Although featuring no actual queer content, Disney's Mulan is well-liked in the LGBTQ community due to the titular character's crossdressing and the possible if unintended reading that her eventual love interest, Li Shang, first takes an interest in “her” while still under the impression that she is a man. Notably, an alternate-universe version of Disney's Mulan in was depicted explicitly as bisexual.
