Although the sorcerer Gargamel was introduced in the original ''Smurfs'' comics as wanting to use the [[Smurf]]s as an ingredient in a ritual to create a [[Philosopher's Stone]], this was inconsistently simplified in the spin-off cartoons to him simply wanting to eat a Smurf directly, thus introducing the plot hole Fenwick underlines.
