They were both of Polynesian descent, though Val was slightly darker-skinned than Herb. When Jenny Everywhere first spent some time at the Resort, the Bonfiglios enjoyed her recounting of past adventures (such as her face-off against Faceless Cyborg Ninja) while having a drink at one of the Resort's picnic tables.
