In one universe, laid-back Herb Wintly and his girlfriend Tash were two frequent residents of the Koala Bay Bares Naturist Resort.
Tash and Herb told a visiting Jenny Everywhere about Tex Tyler a little while before Jenny witnessed one of his schemes first-hand. Herb subsequently participated in the prank the Koala Bay Bares played on Tex in retaliation, at Jenny's suggestion. (COMIC: Ghost Story)
Some time later, Herb and Tash Spicer were playing pool when new guest “Abby” had a drink with Janet Jenkins, Kim Lee and Geena Aletti. He observed that it was odd that a heavily-tattooed person like Abby should be so shy about her nudity. Herb was onto something, as Abúi was actually a Fairy posing as a human and thus overperforming their modesty standards as part of her disguise. (COMIC: Incognito)
However, much to Tash's disappoint, Herb did not actually believe her when she tried to tell him about her subsequent adventures finding out that Abúi was an actual faerie and travelling with her to a magical parallel world. Though he did not accuse her of lying to him and Willow, he supposed that she had merely hallucinated all of this as part of a drug trip. (COMIC: Enchanted)
Behind the scenes
Herb Wintly (whose name is not mentioned in COMIC: Ghost Story) was one of the recurring characters of the webcomics Loxie & Zoot and The Bare Pit. His profile on the official Bare Pit cast list read:
Herb is a very sedate guy. While he doesn't say much he is very friendly and accepting of others even when they are not on his wavelength. He's very much on Tash's wavelength and has been madly in love with her since meeting her a few years ago. Herb enjoys playing the bongos in improvised music jams with as many other musicians as possible. He recently came into a tidy sum of money via an inheritance and figures that, providing he spends it meagerly, it'll tide him over for a few years until he works out what he's doing with himself. |
