According to one account, the '''proto-multiverse''' was a "seething soup of quarks" which existed a the "beginning and end of everything" and was fought over by [[the Destroyer]] and [[the Defender]]. 

Before the Defender banished it into the [[Void]], the Destroyer managed to damage the "pattern of everything" to such an extent that no [[Big Bang]] could take place, leaving the proto-multiverse "stillborn". This forced the Defender to sacrifice herself for the [[Multiverse]], as she splintered herself into an infinity of [[Jenny Everywhere|more limited beings]] to fill the gaps.
