A collaborative effort, it has no single author, instead offering artists and writers to submit strips at their whim.

The strip also does not have a singular canon and continuity; instead, it offers the authors [https://www.mezzacotta.net/owls/cast/ a cast of six characters] with broad physical attributes and personality traits, licensed under CC-BY-SA 3.0 — including [[Meridien]], [[Delkin]], Ambrose, Holly, Oliver and Samantha. These characters can then be plunged by the guest authors into whatever scenario and genre they like, within certain limits of acceptable tone.
