Stumbling into [[the Courtyard]], she made her way to the huge doors, marvelling at the way the House itself seemed to be invisible, with only the windows and doors floating in mid-air. After failing to make a sound by knocking, she made up her mind to use the strange doorbell, which, to her surprise, produced “the sound of a child's laughter” instead of the loud chime she had expected.
