== Behind the scenes ==
The idol and the cursed jewel serving as its eyes were central to the original {{w|The Eye of Argon|''Eye of Argon'' novella}} simultaneously sequelised and spoofed by [[PROSE]]: ''[[Jenny Everywhere and the Eye of Argon (novel)|Jenny Everywhere and the Eye of Argon]]''. During the events of the novella, the Eye was stolen by the barbarian Grignr, only to melt into a living, {{w|shoggoth|shoggoth}}-like blob-monster when he tried to retrieve it out of his pouch.
