Jenny's solution is a reference to a running joke in the ''[[Doctor Who (series)|Doctor Who]]'' comedy special ''[[tardis:The Curse of Fatal Death (TV story)|The Curse of Fatal Death]]'', where Rowan Atkinson's [[tardis:Ninth Doctor (The Curse of Fatal Death)|Doctor]] and his nemesis the Master repeatedly used their time-travelling abilities to bribe [[tardis:Architect (The Curse of Fatal Death)|the architect]] of [[tardis:Castle Tersurus|Castle Tersurus]] to retroactively build a series of traps and escape routes in a game of increasingly childish one-upmanship.

Unlike in ''The Curse of Fatal Death'', the gender of the architect in ''[[The Oubliette: Solution (short story)|The Oubliette: Solution]]'' is never specified.
